Evergreen Residencies for Artists

1. Artspace Studio Opportunity Artspace’s studio opportunity is ideal for artists who are committed to their practice, to experimentation and innovation in their work, to seeking artistic & professional development, and to being a part of and contributing to a dynamic community of artists and creative thinkers.  Located in the historic City Market in the heart of downtown Raleigh, Artspace offers the unique opportunity for the community to interact with working artists. Artspace invites the public to engage in conversations with our artists, discuss the creative process, learn about new techniques and tips, and purchase works of art directly from artists.

2. Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Workspace LMCC’s flagship residency program, Workspace, is a nine-month studio-based program that focuses on the creative process and cohort development of emerging artists. At its core, Workspace nurtures experimentation, creative risk taking, collaboration, learning and skill sharing through regular opportunities for dialogue with peers and arts professionals. Participating artists are provided round-the-clock access to semi-private studio spaces and are expected to engage with the cohort for the full duration of the nine-month program. It currently serves between 10 and 15 individuals or collaborative groups annually.

3. Intramuros Residency – 100 days Artistes en Résidence launches The Intramuros Residency – 100 days. The primary goal of this new program is to welcome artists and researchers for a period of 100 days without any geographical or age limit. The 3 selected artists will be free to organize their working periods between September 2020 and July 2021. The periods of residence in Clermont-Ferrand will be decided in agreement with the team of Artistes en Résidence, according to the availability of the apartment and the studios. The selected artists can also opt by doing the residency in 100 consecutive days.

4. Bau Institute Arts Residency Award The BAU Institute Residency offers international mid-career artists, who have been working independently for over ten years, apartments and workspaces at no cost. Hosted at the Camargo Foundation, the BAU Institute’s Residency award supports artists working in the visual arts, film, performance, and writing on a secluded campus in Cassis, France. The BAU Institute Residency provides artists a singular opportunity to devote intense focus on projects within an inspiring campus perched above the Mediterranean Sea. Residents are free to create their own schedule of studio practice combined with group dinners and outings. Film screenings, readings and studio presentations also support a vibrant community among Fellows. The setting enables undisturbed creativity, while still offering interaction with the local village of Cassis and the nearby city of Marseille.

5. Apexart International Open Call apexart will accept proposals for its International Open Call from February 1 – March 1, 2020. Four winning proposals will become apexart exhibitions presented in selected locations around the world as part of its 2020-21 exhibition season. Curators, artists, writers, and creative individuals, regardless of location, or past experience are invited to submit a proposal online.

6. Ant Farm Residency Art Farm’s artist residency program is for professionals, emerging or established, in all areas of the arts, humanities, and areas related: offering accommodations and studio space to pursue their art in exchange for a contribution of labor of 12 hours per week to help renovate and maintain Art Farm’s buildings and grounds as well as other projects, suited to skills and temperament.

7. ACRE Residency Residents live together in a unique building made from salvaged materials. Most residents stay in the sprawling Steuben Lodge, which houses around 40 people and contains a large central area that includes a library with limited wireless internet, breakfast area, computers, printers and scanners for everyone’s use.

8. Platteforum Artist Residency PlatteForum, a 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization, is an award-winning and innovative arts, youth-development, and artist-in-residence program in Denver that teams under-resourced youth with professional artists in intensive, structured, and long-term creative learning environments. Youth work side by side with resident artists to collaboratively plan, produce, and exhibit a body of work in an environment in which artistic excellence is highly valued. Youth in PlatteForum’s programs delve into a variety of art forms, confronting challenges and obstacles and making life-changing discoveries about who they are, what they are capable of achieving, and where they belong in the world.

9. Djerassi Artist Residency Djerassi Program is designed as a retreat experience to pursue personal creative work and share collegial interaction within a small community of artists. In this spirit residents are expected to commit themselves for the entire residency session they are awarded. Each year, 70+ writers, artists, composers, choreographers, filmmakers and scientists are awarded the gift of time and space: a one-month residency on our 583-acre ranch in Northern California’s Santa Cruz Mountains. All at no cost to the artists.

10. Artists-In-ATHICA Residency Program Through the support of The James E. and Betty J. Huffer Foundation with additional grant-funding in 2019 from the Creature Comforts Get Artistic program and 2020 from the Georgia Council for the Arts and National Endowment for the Arts, the Artists-in-ATHICA Residency program enables up to six artists per year to participate in a collaborative residency at ATHICA.  The purpose of the residency is to foster the development of artists and their artistic works and to enrich the programmatic offerings and community experience provided by ATHICA. Residencies take place throughout the year (generally in the periods January-May, June-August, and September-December), provide administrative support, exhibition and performance facilities, and a small stipend.  Artists may work in any or multiple disciplines and traditions, including but not limited to visual, curatorial, musical, performing, written, experimental, cinematic, digital, and theatrical arts. The work undertaken in the residency can be in a familiar or new discipline. Residents can work independently, collaborate with others, and/or work as a team.

11. BigCi Residency Artists undertake BigCi residency for an agreed period of time to develop ideas, create new work or to deepen their existing art practice. They will stay either in the Art Shed, the Barn, or the House – subject to availability. The work space will be made available in accordance with each artist’s project requirements. The Art Shed, the Barn, the House, and the 8 acres of the property’s bushland are available for all kinds of initiatives. The extraordinary beauty of the surroundings will provide a ground for creativity and professional development. Each project will be discussed individually. 

12. 18th Street Arts Center Artist Residency Program 18th Street Arts Center’s visiting artist residency program has hosted more than 500 artists from dozens of countries around the world since it first began in 1992. There are four live/work artist studios at the center where artists are in residence from 1 to 3 months at a time (sometimes longer). This program hosts artists of all disciplines as well as art curators, writers, and musicians. It includes invited artists as well as artists selected through an open application process. The program is open to artists of all generations, nationalities, and disciplines.
