I am acting on the advice given in class already! The class gave me the confidence to try, try again… Perhaps the best part of the class was having everything broken down into digestible pieces, making any piece of writing less intimidating. As well, having you folks address the various ways one can approach these activities. I found the partner set-up extremely helpful, as I had not used this method before for writing. Of course, it helped to have an amazing partner!

The lectures were great in covering so much specific information in detail, but really the best part was the feedback at the critiques. The comments, suggestions, and discussions helped me understand how to improve. Also, the one-on-one meetings were super helpful. And I think the writing partners were a great addition to the whole process. As a result, I feel more confident that my written work now looks and sounds professional enough to be submitted to residency and grant opportunities (without me cringing when I think of them reading it).

[The best parts of the class included] learning about the Trello system, the meetings with my writing partners and the fact I could always review the video recordings of the class. I feel more prepared to find more professional opportunities because I have better writing tools and strategies. I hope there is a part B of this class.

I found the slideshows soooo helpful; every slide presented another way to think about the writing process and provided points of access I would ideally use when stuck. I also really appreciated the generous availability of the teachers in one-on-one meetings.

I got so much more out of this class than I expected! In addition to the actual writing support, I got insights into how to think about my work, how others view my work and writing, and how to organize information. You both were wonderful instructors. Not only were you engaging and knowledgeable in presenting material, but I felt very encouraged and supported during the learning process. Thank you!

This course was fantastic! The weekly presentations were tremendously helpful and well organized. The live editing critiques were also fabulous. I learned just as much from the critiques of fellow students’ writing as I did during critiques of my own. I love the writing partner I was set up with; we worked together really well. The one-on-ones were gold! I also gained so much from the visiting critic. Thanks to Liz and Faith, my writing has greatly improved. Before this course, I had anxiety about updating my artist statement, but now I am very happy with it and am excited to put it out in the world. I am also thrilled that I have so much finished writing to use to apply for grants, residencies and shows!
